Gen-Y Refuses to Stop Illegal Downloading

Towson, MD- May 10, 2010- Proximity, a social networking agency, announced today that Scott Villa, Music Analyst for Proximity, will be presenting at the Burkshire Marriott Conference Hotel in Towson, MD. on Monday, MAY 18, 2010. The topic, “If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them: Revenue Sharing in the Industry” will be discussed. It seems that not only is illegal downloading not slowing down but it is growing in popularity amongst Gen-Y consumers who refuse to pay for their music. Limewire leads all peer to peer file sharing networks and doesn’t show signs of slowing down.

If the U.S. doesn’t decide to follow the European piracy policy then illegal downloading will continue to grow as it has in the past few years. Here are some recommendations that the music industry can look into:

· Music industry must change its business model to accommodate technological advancements

· Record labels should come to a mutual agreement with the P2P file sharing networks

· Try to profit more from outside sources that can’t be replicated by P2P networks such as concerts and/or poster sales.
